TUESDAYS

CHESS

Learn chess with Silver Knights Chess Academy (formerly Magnus Chess Academy), world champion Magnus Carlsen’s academy!  We’ve taught 100,000 children to play including state and national champions, but most students are beginners looking to learn a new skill and have FUN. Class time is divided between lessons and practice games.  Lessons range from the basic rules to advanced tournament strategies.

 

 

Students will have the opportunity to play in tournaments (in-person and online) outside of club time.  This in-person club includes free online extras including weekly practice tournaments and an event with world champion Magnus Carlsen or Judit Polgar, the best female chess player of all time.  All chess supplies provided. CRAFTY HAND KNITTERS

Are you ready to dive into the cozy and colorful world of knitting? In our fun-filled Hand Knitting Class, you’ll learn how to turn yarn into beautiful scarves, bracelets, and all sorts of cool stuff—all without needing any fancy tools!

 

This class is all about getting crafty with your hands. Whether you’ve never knitted before or you’ve tried it a little, we’re here to help you every step of the way. We’ll start with the basics of finger and hand knitting, using just your fingers (and maybe a little bit of yarn magic). You’ll discover how to create awesome patterns and textures while making new friends who love crafting just like you do!

 

 

Not only will you get to express your creativity, but you’ll also pick up some handy skills that can help you relax and focus. Plus, it’s super satisfying to see something you made with your own hands! So, grab your favorite colors, and let’s get ready to knit some fun and cozy projects together. Join us for a class filled with laughter, creativity, and a whole lot of yarn!

 

 

 

THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX

A fun way of learning creative thinking and problem solving! Do your children think they have all the answers? “Thinking Outside the Box" is just the right thing for them! This class will give your child the opportunity to learn how to think on their feet and spend time in a wonderfully stimulating and creative environment while learning how to tackle challenging problems. Students participate in brainstorm sessions, learn problem solving and conflict resolution methods and techniques, develop creative and critical thinking, effective communication, team building and leadership skills.

 

Class focuses on fun and unusual hands-on activities and projects in which children use their imagination to build and create all sorts of contraptions, structures, bridges, vehicles, creatures, etc. out of all kinds of materials such as pasta, marshmallows, straws, toothpicks, cups, elastic bands, paper, clay, popsicle sticks, pipe cleaners, bubble wrap, yarn, duck tape, cardboard, etc. Most importantly, children will have fun and apply their creative and critical thinking while learning crucial concepts and skills for the new digital increasingly complex and challenging world.

LEGO®: MINECRAFT ENGINEERING

Venture into the world of Minecraft in our unique LEGO® experience. Get ready to build your base, craft your tools, use your Minecart to harvest raw resources, and battle to stop the Ender Dragon from ending the world. Come explore the endless possibilities of LEGO® with a trained Play-Well instructor.

 

 

MONEY MATH

Designed for our youngest students, this innovative foundation on financial literacy also serves as a practical math environment where students learn and reinforce computational skills, while developing a mindset for healthy financial habits. From playing money math games to learning about budgeting through engaging activities, students will have fun while they enhance their math skills!

 

 

POTTERY: SPRING CONTEMPORARY ART

Join us this Spring as we explore the exciting world of Contemporary Art! Learn about how these famous artists changed the world of art by coloring outside the lines. In this class you’ll create pinch pots, coil pots and slab hand built pottery from start to finish. You’ll even get a chance to glaze your own pottery. Our materials are professional grade stoneware and get fired in our kiln making the pieces both beautiful and functional! Ready to explore? Come on and let’s get muddy!

COMICRAFTERS: MY FIRST COMIC BOOK

This course, Introduction to Comic Book Creation, is designed to ignite the imaginations of young aspiring storytellers and artists. Through a structured yet engaging curriculum, students will embark on an exciting journey into the world of comic book creation. This course aims to equip elementary school students with the foundational skills and knowledge necessary to create their very own comic books, fostering creativity, literacy, and artistic expression.

 

In conclusion, This class provides a comprehensive framework for young learners to explore their creativity while developing essential literacy and artistic skills. By the end of this course, students will not only have created their first comic book but also gained confidence in their ability to express themselves through this dynamic medium. Join us on this artistic adventure where imagination knows no bounds!

 

 

ENGINEERING DESIGN PROCESS

This "brains-on hands-on" activity introduces participants to what engineers do and the process they use to create things that make our lives safer and better. If you enjoy brainstorming, being creative, working with others, inventing new things, problem-solving or are just interested in what engineers do, this activity is for you! All materials and equipment provided.

CODING IN MINECRAFT

Software: Minecraft / Skill Level: Int.

 

Using a custom mod called “Computercraft”, students will learn how to program robots called “Turtles” inside the world of Minecraft. In this class, students will be introduced to LUA, a simple scripting language used to develop games such as Angry Birds, where they will learn how to program if-then-else statements, for-while loops, and implement their own functions. Kids will utilize problem-solving skills by learning how to program their robots to complete various tasks and objectives such as programming their turtles to automatically build, mine, and craft items and structures.

 

 

SLIME TIME!

Who doesn't LOVE slime?! It's easy to make and is guaranteed to be FUN! Some are magnetic, some are inspired by famous wizarding books. Others are glittery or glow in the dark. It doesn't matter how we make it, it's the fun that comes in figuring it out. Our slime program is designed to see just how many ways and kinds of slime we can create. We'll discuss what an activator is and why no slime is complete without it. And, we will learn how different ingredients will change the outcome, texture and use of slime. Slime is awesome, but learning why it works is pretty cool too!

 

 

THE ART OF ORIGAMI: FOLDING TO CREATIVITY

Hey there, young creators! Welcome to "The Art of Origami," a super fun class where you'll fold paper into amazing shapes and creatures! Have you ever wanted to turn a simple piece of paper into a cool crane, a playful frog, a cute dog, or even a butterfly? Well, this is your chance!

 

In this class, we’ll dive into the colorful world of origami, where each fold tells a story. Don’t worry if you’ve never folded paper before—this class is all about having fun and exploring your creativity! You’ll learn step-by-step how to make awesome designs while building skills like patience, focus, and problem-solving. Plus, origami is a great way to show off your imagination!
